I just finished The Greatest Generation Speaks: Letters and Reflections by Tom Brokaw. That’s 5 nonfictions books. Only 45 more to go.

I really enjoyed this one. Its was very touching hearing about so many people’s experiences. I think I’ll have to pick up the first book soon.

I just thought of another little extra credit-y thing to add to my list. I’d like to submit 12 little pieces for The Sun magazine’s “Reader’s Write” section. Even if they never get published, it’ll make me flex my writing skills a bit more.

I did #73 and made a fruit pie – blackberry in fact. Not a very pretty pie, but it was good. I’m willing to make more even in my efforts to be a more well-rounded baker.

Mowing Down the List

We went to Chicago this weekend which was #12. While there, we had a wonderful English style tea (#96) and rode the city busses ( extra credit #111). On the way back, I even tried a new veggie – okra (#71). It was deep fried though and I bet everything is good dee fried, but I liked getting it just to see Char’s look of horror at the word okra.

I have made some progress on my list lately. I read another nonfiction book.

A Room of One’s Own by Virginia Woolf was right up my alley being a reader and a feminist. It was very interesting to think about the dearth of early women writers and the state of women in real life compared to woman in works of literature.

I really liked contemplating what marvelous things Charlotte Bronte and Jane Austen could have accomplished on beyond their masterpieces had they had the freedom and privacy of their male counterparts.

I tried scotch the other night at happy hour – Glenlivet to be exact, The verdict? I love the smell of it. Don’t like it at all on the rocks, but it’s good with water. Not sure it’ll ever be a regular drink, but I gave it a shot! Certainly not as many calories as the much loved white russian.

I did an extra credit item and attended my 10 year reunion. It was fun! I was sort of dreading it thinking that it would be all about folks trying to impress eachother. To some extent it was, but more importantly it was so much fun hanging out with my high school friends. It made me remember what I adored about a lot of them and I meet some cool new people at the same time. I’m glad I went.

This could also go down as #86 (reconnecting with old friends) but there are still a couple of people that I’m determined to do my best to track down and hang out with once again before I can consider that one finished.

Oscar Movies

Watched some more Oscar nominees and winners.

- Driving Miss Daisy (Jessica Tandy was an amazing actress)
- L.A. Confidential (Honestly not sure why this was nominated. Good movie but not great).
- Quiz Show (loved it!)

There are some years that I’m almost entirely through.

Gangs of New York is the only one left in 2002 so I may need to watch that one soon.
Traffic for 2000
Titanic for 1997 (one I’ve avoided for years and years because it looks a bit too sacharine for me. Maybe I’ll need a big bottle of wine to get me through that epic).

Maybe I’ll need to get on a roll and finish those years off. My movie watching habits are usually affected more by what’s readily available at the local library.

Bandit Queen

I just started my etsy shop! That’s #90 on my list. I have to keep it going for at least three months. That means adding things to it. Tweaking it and basically keeping it current. And maybe possibly hopefully actually selling something.

At the moment, it is stocked with masks. I plan on adding new things to it – more masks and a variety of garlands and maybe even some paintings.

And I love my shop name – Bandit Queen. The banner is being switched out soon as my very talented friend Kristen is working on a gorgeous new one for me.
